Midlands rail line shut – road freight up by 100 trucks per day

Tasmania’s rail operator, Pacific National, have shut down the main north-south line due to unsafe rail infrastructure.  This follows a string of derailments in recent weeks.

Q: Who’s responsible for rail maintenance?

A: The lazy Bartlett Labor Government.

  • ABC report
  • Mercury report
  • While the shut down is in force, the Midland highway and on-route secondary roads will see an extra 100 truck movements per day.

While we’re on the subject, it again highlights the injustice that Tasmania received not one dollar of the $22,000,000,000 in road, rail and port infrastucture spending spree announced in the federal budget.  So Tasmanian taxpayers have gone into debt but get no benefit.

As Tasmanians continue to drive on a major highway that Labor’s own Infrastructure Minister labelled a ‘goat track’ and as we deal with the decaying nature of our secondary roads and rail, they will remember exactly who to blame.
