A Hodgman Liberal Government will halt the merger proposed between Waverley Primary and St Leonards Primary at least until there has been proper consultation with both school communities.
Our feedback from the school communities is that the process has been rushed and there has simply been inadequate discussion on the needs of students and parents.
Under a Hodgman Government, proper process would take place, and everyone affected would have a good and fair opportunity to express their views.
That will mean that the decision which is ultimately taken will be properly informed.

Fantastic rally today for Waverley Primary School. A shame that there are some people in the system doing all they can to undermine the support group’s excellent work. How can it be right for a so-called ‘consultation’ to be so pushed through and the educational needs of local kids not even being mentioned in anything that passes for justification for a merger.
Additionally today I have been accused of drumming up support for my election campaign! What a hoot…. This comment is only coming from people who have a vested interest in the community being pushed back down into submission. These people would rather that I hadn’t sided with a community that was disempowered while a monstrous fraud was being committed.
I congratulate the Save Waverley Primary School committee for their outstanding work.
Thanks to Rob Soward, George Brookes, Ivan Dean and Cynthia Rodman as well as all parents and students for their attendance today.

So if its not all about your campaign then promise you wont close it down. I would be very surprised if after you got in you actually kept it open from kinder to grade 6.
I think you have a great sense of humour, but I doubt the school will remain open no matter who wins. At least labour are not making false promises about the school.
Jenni, that’s a pretty sad comment from you. Please read our commitment above which is entirely clear! It doesn’t make an outlandish promise – it assures the community that their voice will be properly heard which is a lot more than can be said for how things have been done lately.
You give FAR too much credit to the wonderful people in the Labor Party! They won’t answer parents’ cries for help by even answering emails and you are complimenting them. That is weird…
My commitment is clear. And if you had taken the time to attend the support rally today you would have heard all you needed to learn just how sincere and serious we are about this issue.
Your accusation of “false promises” is the misleading statement.
Michael.
