Diploma downgraded at Polytechnic

The Green-Labor Government’s incompetence and disregard for education has been further highlighted with the embarrassing revelation that the Australia Library and Information Association (ALIA) has suspended accreditation of a Diploma course at the Polytechnic, due to mandatory requirements not being met.

In a letter to the General Manager of the Polytechnic on August 8th 2011, ALIA advised of the Board’s decision “that ALIA suspend the accreditation of the Tasmanian Polytechnic’s Diploma of Library and Information Services after absence from the mandatory Library Technician Educators’ Forum for a period of at least 1 year. Green+Labor Education cuts hurt all students – especially the disadvantaged

An AEU commissioned report by the University of Newcastle has confirmed what parents and the Opposition have been saying for months – the Labor-Green Government’s savage cuts to the education budget are likely to reduce student performance and retention, increase class sizes, make it harder for schools to teach all curriculum areas and make vulnerable schools an even easier target for closure. Cost of failed Education experiments = school cuts and closures

The cost of failed education experiments on Tasmanian schools children has left the Government desperate to recoup cash by closing schools and cutting teacher numbers.

The Government’s Preliminary Outcomes report has revealed operating costs in the Department of Education were $113 million higher than budgeted for in 2010-11 with over $70 million relating to the failed Tasmania Tomorrow experiment. Read more »
