Making a real change for families living with disability

A Hodgman Liberal Government understands that action is needed now to provide real change for people with disabilities, and their families and carers.

The Liberals have committed over $28 million to deliver new and expanded services that will make a significant difference to people’s lives.

The funding includes $5 million to begin an innovative new direct funding model Your Care, Your Choice to allow people with disabilities, their families and carers, to arrange the supports they require based on their individual circumstances.

North East Package unveiled

A Hodgman Majority Liberal Government will ensure that nearly $50 million is invested over the next four years in the North-East.

We commit to ensuring that the $42.5 million in road funding for North-East freight roads that was announced three years ago is expedited and spent on priority projects such as the Bridport Main Road as a matter of urgency.

Flinders Island Package unveiled

A Hodgman Liberal Government will provide the real change Flinders Island needs with up to $6.4 million to fix shipping, improve port facilities, further develop renewable energy options and importantly, assist the island to further develop and market the Flinders Island brand.

Labor has failed the Flinders Island community over almost 12 years in government. Most recently, the debacle surrounding the Flinders Island shipping service highlights Labor’s ineptitude and lack of interest in the people of Flinders Island.

Liberals to safeguard and invest in new health services with RFDS

The Royal Flying Doctor Service base at Launceston Airport is a vital part of the northern Tasmanian community and health system and must not be downgraded or moved south. In 2007-08, the Flying Doctors helped 1,654 patients. But last September we discovered that the Bartlett Labor Government had the highly-respected RFDS in its sights – considering abolition of the fixed wing service and/or relocating the air retrieval base to Hobart.

Fixing Labor’s water and sewerage bungle

The Tasmanian Liberals today announced their four-point plan to fix Labor’s water and sewerage bungle, if elected to Government on March 20, 2010. Leader of the Opposition, Will Hodgman, said that the Liberal policy included freezing prices for consumers while the water and sewerage bungle was fixed, as well as providing financial incentives to empower Tasmanians to invest in practical water savings initiatives.
