Tasmania’s 600 volunteer ambulance officers play a critical role in providing emergency health services to regional and remote communities around the state.
Capping off National Volunteer Week, it is my pleasure today to celebrate and thank our volunteer ambulance officers, and to particularly recognise a number of officers for their long and dedicated service.
Ambulance Tasmania is only able to provide a 24-hour ambulance service to all parts of the state thanks to the invaluable support and work of volunteers.
Our volunteers are the backbone of our services in small, rural towns like Maydena, Bothwell, Dover, Rosebery, Smithton, Beaconsfield and Scottsdale.
In serving their communities, volunteers give generously of their time through attending upwards of 12 training sessions a year and being on call for at least 20 hours a month.
