The Liberal Government has a long-term Plan for Tasmania to deliver a statewide health system which better serves patients and health professionals. Tasmania has some of the best health professionals and clinicians in the world. We are committed to our highly skilled workforce and I was pleased today to open the Southern Simulation Centre at the Royal Hobart Hospital’s Clinical School.
Partly funded by the Federal Government, the simulation centre gives students and staff the chance to run through various scenarios to gain skills and experience before they encounter the situation in real life.
The centre can also be used for assessment, while staff will use the centre as a development tool for new skills and procedures.
The Royal Hobart Hospital Centre is part of the Tasmanian Clinical Education Network’s (TCEN) ‘Simulated Learning Environments Project’ – teaching and up-skilling students and staff across Tasmania, including in rural and regional areas.
While contributing to the increase of clinical training activity in Tasmania, the TCEN has identified opportunities to more efficiently use existing capacity through a collaborative and consultative model involving a range of stakeholders.
The Royal Hobart Hospital centre is a key achievement in providing infrastructure and resources to support staff development and student training and I congratulate all those involved in delivering this important project.
The Liberal Government is now reforming our healthcare system. We have to get our system right and we need to make sure we are spending our finite health dollars as effectively as possible.
We will deliver a healthcare system that is safe, effective and efficient, a system which puts the needs of patients back where they belong – at the forefront of every decision.
