The Hodgman Liberal Government’s rescued Royal Hobart Hospital Redevelopment is creating thousands of direct and indirect jobs for Tasmanians. Today I can announce more tenders have been awarded for early works critical for decanting and site preparation at the Royal Hobart Hospital.
Tasmanian company Fairbrother has been awarded the lion share of the Redevelopment’s early works packages totaling $37 million.
A new inpatient oncology ward and refurbished accommodation for renal and orthopedic patients in A-Block are amongst a further $6.5 million of works awarded to Fairbrother.
On Sunday, Fairbrother was announced as the successful sub-contractor for the $22 million Liverpool Street forecourt facility.
The Liverpool Street forecourt facility is a key feature of the new decanting plan for the rescued Royal Hobart Hospital Redevelopment. The 54 bed inpatient facility is necessary to care for vulnerable patients from B-block, which is to be demolished.
Last month I inspected progress by Fairbrother across three floors of the hospital’s main building, C-Block, valued at $7 million.
Specialist building services business, AG Coombs, have also won the tender for services tunnel works valued at $4 million.
Tasmania is currently enjoying significant levels of construction activity which has impacted on securing competitive tenders for refurbishment packages.
The Redevelopment has responded appropriately and has quickly implemented alternative procurement strategies when needed to achieve the best value for money, including reconfiguration and re-letting of several tenders to encourage greater competition and get the best deal possible.
All early works packages are now awarded, with the exception of a final tender for clinical and office spaces which closes tomorrow.
All early works packages will have commenced by the end of October and the project remains on track to complete the temporary forecourt facility, relocate the associated hospital services and commence demolition of B-Block by April 2016 as previously announced.
The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to delivering the new K-Block on time, to budget and to scope.
