Data released under RTI today confirms the Hodgman Liberal Government’s strong investment in extra nurses.
The total number of nursing full time equivalent positions across the Tasmanian Health Service has risen by more than 80 over the first nine months of 2015 16. As at March 2016, the Tasmanian Health Service employed almost 4600 nurses (almost 3460 Full-Time Equivalent staff).
I am pleased on International Nurses Day to reaffirm the Government’s commitment to our nursing workforce who do such an incredible job.
With the budget back on track we are continuing to reinvest in essential services such as health.
The data released today reflects our record spending of more than $6 billion in Tasmania’s health system, where we have re-opened beds and in the case of the LGH opened two new theatres.
Through our One Health System Reforms, including our recent Patients First plan, we are working hard to ensure Tasmanians get the health services they need and deserve.
This includes establishing Tasmania’s first dedicated elective surgery centre at the Mersey which will be fully operational in July this year.
