The opening today of the new Short Stay Surgery Unit is another milestone in the Hodgman Government’s $689 million Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) Redevelopment project.
The Short Stay Surgery Unit provides more post-operative care options for patients and will help with patient flow by freeing up beds for inpatients with more complex health needs.
For patients whose conditions are less acute and less complex, a short stay is appropriate because they only require a short recovery time.
With eight recovery recliners and four trolley bays able to take patients from tomorrow, this unit will accommodate patients for up to 36 hours depending on their needs, and is based on a nationwide contemporary model of care.
The Short Stay Surgery Unit is part of a new interconnected surgery precinct on the RHH’s fourth floor to be established when K-Block is finished, which will provide an additional seven operating and procedure rooms.
The construction of K-Block will provide an additional seven operating and procedure rooms.
The works were completed by Tasmanian business, Fairbrother.
The completion of the new Short Stay Surgery Unit demonstrates the progress being made in the RHH Redevelopment which will deliver a state-of-art health facility for generations of Tasmanians to come.
This is a key part of the Hodgman Government’s action to reinvest in essential services such as health, with a record investment of $6.4 billion over the next four years.
