The Hodgman Liberal Government has been negotiating in good faith with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF).

It is deeply unfortunate that the ANMF feel that industrial action is appropriate – particularly as we head towards Christmas.

The formal offer of a 2 per cent increase over three years was put to the ANMF, and we continue to urge them to take up this offer to provide members a pay rise before Christmas.

Since we came to Government, we have employed more than 140 full-time equivalent (FTE) nurses, addressed double shifts with the introduction of a cap and introduced legislation that extends mandatory jail sentences for serious assaults against nurses.

Our constructive negotiations with HACSU and the CPSU – without industrial action – are evidence of our commitment to achieve fair and affordable wage outcomes.

The Hodgman Government is committed to genuinely working with the ANMF to achieve a fair and affordable wage outcome for Tasmanian nurses.
