Labor has once again chosen self-interest above the safety of Tasmanians when they shamefully voted against mandatory minimum sentences for serious assaults on emergency service workers.
Frontline workers have the right to work without being seriously assaulted, which is exactly why we introduced this legislation that sends the right message that this will no longer be tolerated.
This is a massive slap in the face for all our brave frontline workers who are out there every day helping the community and even worse, it came just two days after they voted against better protection for children against serious sexual offences.
It proves once and for all they don’t care about Tasmanians- rather, they only care about themselves and political point scoring.
We will now seek a mandate at the election for these laws and if re-elected, we will reintroduce them into the parliament.
