The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is the strongest supporter of the information technology sector and is committed to growing even more local ICT jobs, in both ICT-specific businesses and the wider business community.
Today’s release of the Tasmanian ICT Workforce Action Plan 2020-2023, developed in close collaboration with government and our key stakeholders: TasICT; the Australian Computer Society; the University of Tasmania; and TasTAFE, will help us all to achieve this goal.
The agreed Action Plan will drive the ongoing digital transformation of our economy and open up enhanced student engagement in ICT careers, improvements in employment pathways, strengthened job-readiness for graduates and increased diversity across the ICT workforce.
With Tasmania’s 7,300 strong ICT workforce growing at eight per cent a year and the value of the sector predicted to reach $250 billion nationally by 2025, a coordinated approach to helping get more Tasmanians into ICT and keeping them here, will allow Tasmania to reap the full benefits of digital innovation and economic growth into the future.
