The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is taking action to protect our emergency service workers attending roadside incidents.
As of yesterday, Tasmanian motorists are required to safely slow down to 40km/h when they see emergency services on the roadside with flashing lights, under new road rules.
This important change is part of this Government’s commitment to keep our first responders safe while attending emergency situations, included in our Plan which voters endorsed at the last election.
The new road rules recognise the time-critical nature our first responders deal with during emergency situations and will help reduce the risk of being hit by fast moving vehicles.
This is just one more way we are working to save lives and reduce injuries on our roads, moving towards our target of reducing the number of annual serious injuries and deaths on Tasmanian roads to less than 200 by 2026.
