This weeks’ State of the State address delivered by the Premier outlines the Tasmanian Liberal Government’s plan to secure our future.
The last 12 months have been challenging but our State is rebounding strongly.
We introduced our $1 billion economic and social support package, and our landmark $5 billion infrastructure investment.
Employment has returned to pre-pandemic levels. Our economy grew by 3.3 per cent in the December quarter, putting Tasmania as the second strongest growing State in the country, and our economy is now bigger than before the pandemic.
Our businesses are confident, hiring and investing. These positive economic results are testament to the hard work of Tasmanians, and they are the result of our strong action to support Tasmanians through the pandemic, and help our economy recover.
But there is more work to be done, and the Tasmanian Government accepts all of the Premiers’ Economic Social Recovery Advisory Council’s recommendations, no matter how challenging they may be.
The Council consulted extensively and heard from around 3,500 Tasmanians through one of the largest listening exercises undertaken in recent years.
We are excited about the bold opportunities they will create for our State and our people in this next chapter.
Together, we have a plan to secure Tasmania’s future.
The State of the State delivers strong measures to attract investment and create jobs, including the $30 million Building and Construction Loan Scheme to help get more projects off the ground, and more Tasmanians into work.
The initiatives include:
- a $20.5 million skills and training package;
- building and construction industry supports
- financial support to business and industry
- measures to boost home ownership and reduce the cost of living
- a $10 million Headworks Holiday for new residential subdivisions to incentivise further land activation
- progress on the important City Deals and our $5 billion infrastructure blitz; and
- measures to boost digital inclusion.
It is about jobs, it is protecting the most precious members of the Tasmanian family – our young people, and looking after their future interests, particularly through the training system, housing, education and skills and health.
The consistent and significant support of the Government has created an economic turnaround and our business confidence leads the nation.
We will continue to work hard to lead our State to an event better place, and secure Tasmania’s future.
