The Tasmanian Liberal Government is working to support members of the Orford and Triabunna community impacted by the ongoing safety works on the Tasman Highway at Paradise Gorge.
I’m pleased to advise that a temporary shuttle service for residents of Orford and Triabunna currently affected by the works to attend medical and other appointments and to conduct personal business in Hobart will commence on Thursday 17 June.
The Tuesday and Thursday service will run from Orford leaving from 9:00am, with the return journey departing Hobart at 3:30pm, allowing a 4 hour 45 minute window to attend to appointments and personal business.
Bookings are now open and can be made by calling the Department of State Growth on 6166 3343 on a first-in first-served basis.
Bookings close at 4:00pm the day prior to the selected service and a waiting list is available should all spaces already be allocated.
The service will operate between the Orford Library on Charles St and the Hobart Treasury Building at Franklin Square.
We have two 4WD vehicles with experienced drivers in place to start the service next week that can cater for up to eight passengers per trip and ensure a safe and comfortable ride for passengers. The service will travel via Wielangta Road.
There is no charge for the service however bookings are essential.
Passengers are asked to arrange their own transport to the pick-up and drop-off locations as the service will not be door-to-door, however consideration will be given to providing a drop-off if an appointment is on the direct route and mobility is an issue.
Unfortunately, as this service has limited capacity, family members or friends are not able to accompany a passenger however carers will be able to accompany a passenger, as will assistance animals and mobility aids.
I thank the community for their ongoing patience while we get these urgent works completed and the Tasman Highway route back to normal.
Further information is available on the services and making bookings at the Transport Tasmania website.
