As a strong supporter of Metro Tasmania and public transport more broadly, the Tasmanian Liberal Government is very proud to welcome a very important partnership announcement between the Tasmania JackJumpers and Metro.

We wholeheartedly support initiatives like this one, designed to increase the visibility and opportunity for the Tasmanian public to get on board a bus.

This partnership will not only promote Metro and the services it provides, but also gives JackJumpers fans an opportunity to try the bus and join the 6.85 million passengers travelling on Metro buses every year.

We are especially pleased that Metro will be providing free bus travel in the north and south of the State, getting Tasmanians to and from the games at the Silverdome and here at the MyState Bank Arena.

For the first official home game tomorrow, 11 buses will operate 17 services to the game and 14 services departing the game, to and from the Glenorchy interchange, Rosny Bus Mall, Wrest Point casino via the CBD and Kingborough via the city.

The Metro partnership with the JackJumpers will also deliver great outcomes to the Tasmanian community as the two organisations work together on the school and community program.

It’s a wonderful opportunity to engage with school students and community groups about the benefits of an active lifestyle, public transport and the value of teamwork.

Our government is investing $81.5 million over four years to modernise public transport in Tasmania, to boost patronage and reduce congestion.

This includes extra buses, upgraded bus stops, more park and ride facilities in growing areas, and a contemporary integrated ticketing solution across all public transport providers.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is a strong investor in public transport, and highly supportive of Metro’s efforts in this space.

We are similarly supportive of partnerships like this one, which not only benefit the two parties but also Tasmanian basketball fans as well.
