As a Liberal Party, we back families and small business and we support a free market.

However where the national market is failing we will step in to support Tasmanians.

Importantly, we protect Tasmania’s interests when national policy settings are working for the good of Tasmania.

Today I made the most significant announcement that we have made this election, and I wanted to make sure you are aware of it.

As I travel around Tassie, one of the things that keeps coming up is the cost of insurance.

It feels like every time there are floods and cyclones on the Mainland, Tasmanian premiums go up.

Every time there’s a crime wave in Victoria, Tasmanian premiums go up.

Australian Insurance firms raked in over $6 billion in profits last year alone.

Insurance premiums in Tasmania have risen by more than 35% in just two years, with many households being hit even harder.

Some small businesses are now unable to get essential cover, leaving them exposed and at risk of closure.

MAIB, in comparison, has seen premiums rise by just 5%.

If re-elected, we will be launching TasInsure, a Tasmanian-owned insurance company.

It will be able to cover everything from home and contents, to community clubs, small businesses and farm insurance too.

And it will be cheaper and easier to access than anything else in the market.

We expect it will save Tasmanian households $250 a year and small businesses around 20%, even more.

It will be cheaper, it will be fairer.

And it will be ours.

So let’s get on with it.
Let’s finish the job for Tasmania.
