I was pleased to today personally congratulate two talented young North West students who have been presented with scholarships in Radiation Sciences to help deliver expanded cancer services.
University of Tasmania students Hannah Martin from Ulverstone and Jordan Matthews from Moorleah have both been granted an Elphinstone Family Scholarship in Radiation Sciences under Round Four of the program.
The scholarship, which is jointly funded by the Tasmanian Government and the Elphinstone Group, will assist the North West students to study away from home, which is required to access Radiation Sciences.
Importantly these students will bring their skills back home. Hannah and Jordan will work in the North West for three years after completing their training, helping to ensure the availability of medical radiation sciences staff in the North West, and providing a direct benefit to North West Coast patients.
I’d like to thank the Elphinstone Group and the University of Tasmania Foundation, which distributes the funds, for their involvement in such a worthwhile program which is contributing to the ongoing health and well-being of North West communities.
The Liberal government is committed to ensuring all communities have access to essential health services and keeping locally-trained health professionals here in Tasmania.
