Tasmania’s firefighters have taken to the sports field today to demonstrate not only their firefighting but sporting abilities in the State Firefighter Championships.
The Hodgman Government is a proud supporter of all of our emergency services, such as the Tasmanian Fire Service (TFS) and the work they do each day to keep our communities safe.
In its ninth year, the championships always attract a good number of teams from around Tasmania and this year, 32 senior and junior squads, totalling 200 firefighters, will come together at Invermay Park over the weekend.
In the lead-up to the bushfire season, the championships will see TFS members practice their operational skills as each event is designed to simulate a potential scenario, in either a rural and urban environment.
They will also be using regular firefighting equipment as part of the events.
It is great to see 13 junior teams competing, as the cadets and juniors form an integral part of the competitions and it also helps to shore up a future firefighting force.
While the championships focus on two days of competition, the event is also a great opportunity for our TFS members to meet their counterparts from each region and make friendships in a social setting.
