Congratulations to Tasmania’s best IT minds who competed in the fourth annual GovHack event and were recognised at an awards event tonight. GovHack is the annual `Hackathon’ that brings together some of the nation’s best digital developers to create new ideas for government, industry and community using government information, or datasets.
Nine teams won awards across eight categories, with two – Beat The Press (Hobart) and Mission Attrition (Launceston) – to go on to represent Tasmania at the national finals in Adelaide on October 22.

The opening of Tasmania’s Innovation Hub in Hobart is focussed on encouraging entrepreneurship and assisting start-ups commercialise their ideas.
Called Enterprize – Tasmania’s Start-up Space, the hub will be open to the public yet have a focus on developing the local start-up community, providing the resources and support required to inspire and accelerate a generation of students, innovators and entrepreneurs.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is proud to support Tasmania’s first major Internet of Things (IoT) forum.
We want to see Tasmania emerge as an IT and innovation leader in the nation and the state is ideally placed for the development and testing of devices and applications within the IoT.
Hosted by Definium Technologies, the networking forum is bringing together 50 of the state’s IT leaders as well as supporting organisations like the University of Tasmania and Tasmanian Government, as well as representatives from interstate and overseas.

Tasmania’s East Coast experienced the largest increase in tourism numbers of any region last year, with 5.5 per cent growth.
A Digital Ready session on the East Coast today is specifically aimed at assisting local businesses to be digital savvy, so they can better meet visitor expectations and more widely communicate what they have to offer.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is delivering on our promise to roll out free Wi-Fi across Tasmania including to regional areas. As part of stage one of the Wi-Fi network, there are now 50 live locations across Tasmania.
The government is proud to have partnered with Telstra, which has been contracted for four years to deliver free Wi-Fi at popular tourist destinations such as Port Arthur, Cradle Mountain, Salamanca and Hobart’s beautiful waterfront.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to delivering innovative and contemporary education outcomes that lead to jobs, and the partnership between TasTAFE and CSC is a great example of that.
Last year the Tasmanian Government entered into an agreement with UXC Limited to establish a Service Desk Centre of Excellence in Hobart.
