Our family recently experienced a traumatic criminal event that needed complex and immediate attention from multiple branches of Government to reduce the harm. Michael listened with strong compassion mixed with acute attention to detail to learn how he could help us as a local Member. True to his word, he worked beyond what we expected to help resolve a deeply complex set of issues with timely and solid outcomes. Michael cared for our family and community not just because it was his job, but as an empathetic and sincere resident of our city. His genuine concern mixed with intelligence and knowledge of how to get Government to work well for the community was exactly what we needed from our local Member.

I grew up on the outskirts of Launceston from a middle/lower class family. I have never had any interest in politics nor have I had any trust in politicians as I’ve always thought they only had their own interests at heart. Well that was until I had the pleasure of meeting Michael. My opinion changed recently through a medical issue. My issue was pushed aside and left me with no where to turn and I basically gave up.
After speaking to a friend about it he recommended I go and see Michael as Michael had helped his wife get a life-saving operation. I took his advice and rang Michael’s office, Michael invited me to go and meet with him to discuss my issues. I was made feel very welcome and when I met with him he was genuinely interested in my story. I was very comfortable talking to him and left the meeting feeling that there was still hope and my fight was not over.
With the help and support from Michael my issue has been fully resolved. I am so glad I stepped outside my comfort zone and approached Michael for help. I also have a different outlook on politicians now as I have had first hand help from a man who didn’t judge me, actually cared and listened. I can not thank Michael enough for his compassion and taking time to sit with a random member of the public and be so willing to help in anyway he can. A true gentleman and true to his word. Thank you Michael- your help has been life changing!

Mr Ferguson has done an extraordinary job in one of the biggest jobs in government. He has without doubt been one of the state’s greatest health ministers. He has done an outstanding job. He has done an exceptional job. For somebody to hold the position of Minister for Health for well over five years is a testament to his durability, his commitment, to my support in him.

Politics can at times be cruel. Michael Ferguson accepted responsibility for the failings of a number of people. Michael acted honourably when let down by the Company for which he was the responsible shareholder. The Government has responded responsibly and comprehensively with the Governance review, and a failure like this is unlikely to occur again. The failure was not caused by the Government but instead by people Tasmania relied upon to do their jobs. Tasmania needs experienced, honest and hardworking politicians such as Michael to help navigate the current complex economic environment.
