The Hodgman Liberal Government’s second Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Summit was held in Launceston today with strong engagement by attendees and a shared commitment to drive the sector’s future success.
These summits bring representatives of the ICT industry and the private sector together twice a year, giving them the opportunity to meet with relevant senior government representatives.
The Hodgman Government is committed to ensuring that all Tasmanians benefit from the state’s digital transformation, and that the industry benefits from Tasmania’s strongly growing economy and remains competitive in national and international markets.
Today’s summit was about listening to the views of the ICT business community so that we can clearly understand the challenges they face and what we can do to assist this important sector.
The 2018 Digital Pulse report, released by the Australian Computer Society (ACS), shows ICT jobs in the state are expected to grow at an average annual rate of 2.4 per cent and forecasts a net increase of 1000 jobs over the coming four years.
Today’s summit will inform the forthcoming ICT Workforce Development Plan to ensure inclusion of practical actions that support the future workforce of growing Tasmanian ICT companies and ICT units within primary production (agriculture, aquaculture, fishing and related support services), healthcare and maritime and defence industries.
By working closely with industry the Tasmanian Government can help to nurture our important ICT industry and create even more jobs for Tasmanians.
