Today’s ABS Building approvals have confirmed once again that Tasmania’s building and construction industry is going from strength to strength.
There were 342 building approvals in June in seasonally adjusted terms, which was 43.7 per cent higher than this time last year, and 15.9 per cent higher than in March last year, before the pandemic.
In the 2020-21 financial year, 4,234 dwellings were approved, 33.9 per cent more than the previous year – which was the third-highest growth rate in the country, and higher than the national growth of 27.3 per cent.
Additionally, lending finance data for the month of June saw 880 new loan commitments demonstrating the strength in our housing market.
These latest figures demonstrate a pipeline of projects to come – and coupled with a strong economy and more jobs than ever before – confirm that the Tasmanian Liberal Government’s Plan to secure Tasmania’s future is working.
