The Tasmanian Liberal Government welcomes news of Timberlink’s $63 million investment in its Bell Bay operation.
The upgrades will see the saw mill expanded, an additional continuous kiln for drying of timber installed and site infrastructure upgraded.
The project is expected to increase timber manufactured at the site by more than 50 per cent and create around 25 jobs during construction and an additional 50 new jobs through the value chain, once in operation.
This is the latest in a series of investments made by Timberlink in its Bell Bay mill, which supports approximately 600 direct and indirect jobs in the region.
It is particularly pleasing to see additional downstream processing and value adding capacity installed in Tasmania, which increases returns to our State and helps grow new jobs and opportunity.
Today’s announcement is more evidence of the confidence in our world-class $1.2 billion forestry sector.
More than 5,700 direct and indirect Tasmanian jobs are supported by the sector, many of which are in regional and rural areas.
We congratulate Timberlink on this latest investment at their Bell Bay mill and their continued support of Tasmanian forestry.
