Students, families and the community have celebrated the official opening of Tasmania’s newest primary school. Legana Primary School opened its doors to students on the first day of Term 1 and currently has 132 students enrolled.

With its state-of-the-art classrooms, undercover sports court, library and Lego wall, the school is providing students with the education facilities they need and deserve.

Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we are continuing our strong record of delivering new and upgraded education infrastructure for our students.

Local students have had a unique opportunity to attend a brand-new school, and it’s been wonderful to see the school community come to life.

As one of the fastest growing areas in greater Launceston, we are so pleased to be able to deliver this school for families who live in Legana or are choosing to move here.

The onsite facilities include an oral health clinic operated by the Department of Health, and Outside School Hours Care provided by Discovery Early Learning Centres.

A co-located sport and recreational hub, including a sport oval, is also available for school use during school hours.

This $33.7 million project demonstrates the Tasmanian Government’s strong investment in new education infrastructure.

There’s more to come!  There’s an ambulance station in development for Legana, which will represent a fantastic new health service in the area. We are currently working to duplicate the West Tamar Highway between Freshwater Point Road and Acropolis Drive – that means 4 lanes from Legana to Launceston (except for the northbound stretch through Barns Hill, for which we are also investigating an extra lane.)
