A new purpose-built Agricultural Learning Centre at Scottsdale will be delivered under a re-elected Tasmanian Liberal Government. The $2.5 million Centre will boost Scottsdale High School’s strong agricultural program, which includes the delivery of Certificate II in Agriculture.
“This will help local students thrive in their education and future careers,” Premier Rockliff said.
“Scottsdale High has students from Waterhouse to Herrick. Farming and agriculture is in their blood, and Tasmania is better off for it. We have some of the best produce and livestock in the nation, and this facility will help ensure we have skilled staff to capitalise on this for generations to come.
“Currently, students undertaking agricultural studies don’t have a fit-for-purpose classroom on the school farm, limiting the potential for delivery of modern agricultural education and contemporary hands-on learning.”
Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said the new Agricultural Learning Centre will provide students with industry-relevant skills, improve engagement in agricultural studies, and deliver a pathway for further studies in Agricultural Science and Agribusiness.
“We have really listened to the voices of the agriculture students at Scottsdale school who were advocating for more facilities near the farm,” Minister Palmer said.
“As part of the learning centre, we are delighted to announce a wet weather shelter and enclosed canteen space will be delivered as part of this facility.
“Importantly, the new facility will also serve the wider community, including partnerships with services groups and agricultural organisations.
“It will also build on similar facilities we’ve delivered in Campbell Town and Bothwell.”
The Centre has the strong support of the School Association and broader community for upgraded facilities, and addresses student voice concerns.
This investment – funded through our Vocational Education and Training Facilities Fund – reflects the Liberals’ commitment to supporting rural and regional students with modern facilities and practical job-ready training.
“While Labor and the Greens argue, we’ve been delivering better healthcare, more housing, responsible cost-of-living relief, and the things that matter to Tasmanians like this Agricultural Facility,” Premier Rockliff said.
“And we’ve got more to do.
“But here’s the truth: we can’t finish the job without a majority Liberal Government.
“Let’s get on with it.
“Let’s finish the job for Tasmania.”
