The Hodgman Liberal Government considers the Mersey Community Hospital a critical part of Tasmania’s health system.

Yesterday Cabinet met in the North West, and considered the Government’s position on the Mersey’s future.
Cabinet has resolved to seek a 10-year commitment from the Federal Government, under the same terms and conditions as the current contract, including that the Federal Government retains ownership of the Mersey hospital.

I have this morning communicated this position to Federal Health Minister Sussan Ley.

The Mersey plays an important role on the North West and is a crucial part of our One Health System reforms.
Securing its future will provide certainty to the community and health professionals taking positions in the region.

The Hodgman Liberal Government said it would fight tooth and nail to secure longer-term federal funding, and this is exactly what we are doing.
