Ramping and the quality of our ED teams

Over the last week, there has been significant media attention on the issue of ambulance offload delay, or “ramping”, at the Royal Hobart Hospital.

Ramping is a long-standing problem we inherited from Labor and the Greens… it affects public hospitals and ambulance services across the country. While some other states have tried to address it, it continues to impact on patient, staff and the community.

While we want to reduce ramping for the benefit of patients and staff, I am concerned that media coverage and public comments may lead to a perception that ramping is due to a lack of ED staff commitment or competence.

Health Reform and the State Budget

The Liberal Government continues to lay the foundations for a strong, stable health care system to deliver the care that Tasmanians need and deserve.  Today’s Budget shows health spending increases by nearly 5% from last year’s Budget to $1.465 billion in 2014-15 as we begin rebuilding the health system. Delivering Extra Elective Surgeries

Today’s Budget delivers on our promise to Tasmanians to reduce elective surgery waiting lists and rebuild essential services.

We are rolling out an extra $76 million over four years to perform up to an extra 15,000 elective surgeries that will see more Tasmanians get the surgery they need sooner. (more…)

Extra Tasmanian Nurses

Today’s Budget delivers on our promise to rebuild essential services with new investments in our nursing and midwifery workforce.

We are committed to rebuilding the frontline and today we confirmed a $5.4 million investment over the next four years for additional Transition to Practice Placements for nursing graduates.

By 2017-18 there will be up to 85 additional graduate nurses on top of normal recruitment levels over the next four years. (more…)

RHH Taskforce worth every cent

The Royal Hobart Hospital Rescue Taskforce has already proven its worth by identifying $2 million in savings which will now be available for the major part of the redevelopment, the inpatient precinct.

This is already significantly more than the total expected cost of the taskforce administration. (more…)
